Personal Dynamic Media

Hey,

So I found it amazing how accurately they envisioned the Dynamic Notebook. Today we have devices that are essentially exactly what they are talking about. I liked how they related it to our brains. We store so much knowledge in our brains and the device would do they same. The difference is that we do not always remember everything we hear. We are just not capable to memorize and organize so much information in our brains. Having a device would allow us to do such a thing. We can have a great amount of information organized and stored in a hand held device. They people had a vision that was extremely accurate. Today we have Ipads and Kindles. We can store thousands of books on one device and also have so many games and even a writing feature to store thoughts. What I am thinking about now is who is having visions today? and what visions are they? I would like to think that me myself have these images. I always think of new things we could have but I wonder if it will come true. Many people think that we have created everything but i believe we have not. I do not think we need to create anything else because I feel like we have enough but I do believe more will come.

  1. Hey Southpaw I have to agree with you assessment of the article. It is amazing how they were developing the Dynabook in the 1970's which is the precursor the I-pad and tablets we have today. Most technology we use are fueled by information and design and I think that was the purpose of the Dynabook. The Dynabook was created to make peoples live more easier and enjoyable. I was kind of surprising how this type technology was advertised to children because I think it may be overwhelming for them handle. But think you have video games hand held devices like the 3D DS and the PSP which is a mini world of entertainment and technology in the palm of their hands. I think today technology is creating a different world for us to experience is seperate from the living world if that makes sense.

  2. I too was amazed how accurately they explained the Dynabook. This article was written in the 1970s. If you look at the mock up in the article, the picture looks almost exactly like an iPad. I also find it so interesting that they thought the Dynabook might not work because it was supposed to do too much. Today, computers do ten times more than what the article stated the Dynabook would do. Like you, I too wonder what type of technology people are thinking about now. This article was written more than 30 years ago, it is really interesting to see where we will be 30 years from today. It is hard to imagine society becoming more technologically advanced than we already are, I guess we will just have to wait and see.
